The tradition of minstrelsy living in Istanbul and execution environments

Istanbul is one of the important centers where the minstrel tradition is performed today. With the contributions of minstrels coming from different regions, a living minstrel tradition has been formed in Istanbul. The living minstrel tradition in Istanbul, which is mostly formed by Eastern minstrels, is performed in different places and environments. The minstrel tradition, which was previously performed mostly in the oral culture environment in Istanbul, has started to be performed in the electronic culture environment with the contribution of technology. Today, the minstrel tradition in Istanbul is performed in a wide area with its representatives and performance environments. The study, the scope of which is determined as Istanbul, aims to determine and evaluate the minstrel tradition, representatives and performance environments living in Istanbul. More than one research technique was used in the study, which obtained information about the minstrel tradition living in Istanbul. In the interviews conducted with the interview method, directed interview and undirected interview techniques were used. The observation method was used to reveal what minstrels pay attention to while performing their art, the relationships between the narrator and the listener, and the relationship of the compiled products with the environment and time. Compilation studies were carried out by making natural and artificial observations according to the performance environments where minstrels living in Istanbul perform their art. In addition to the scanning and comparison technique, the classification, examination and evaluation of the materials resulting from the compilation were also carried out. The aim of this study was to have a detailed view on the current status of the minstrel tradition living in Istanbul.
