The Assessmant of employment oriented typing courses in vocational education centers for the adults

The purpose of this study was to assess effectiveness and efficiency of employment oriented typing courses in adult education centers. This study was a descriptive study consisting of three sub- populations. The first group of subjects were 48 administrator and teachers working in adult education centers. The second group were 300 graduater randomly selected from among 1557 students enrolled in typing courses during 1996-1997 and 1997-1998. The last group of subjects were 45 employers who have employed graduates of typing courses. Data were collected by using a questionnaire designed by researcher to gather data on (a) socio-demographic characteristics of respondents, (b) effectiveness and efficiency of typing course, (c) suggestions to improve effectiveness and productivity of typing courses, and (d) some general ideas and suggestions. Questionnaires were administered by researcher. Data were analyzed by using SPSS for Windows. Frequencies, percentages and means were tabulated. Oneway analysis of variance was used to test differences in means by subject groups. Study findings indacated that all three groups of subjects consistently reported inadeguacies in meeting employers expectations and needs. This finding suggest that typing courses should be redesigned to meet employers needs subject reported generally typing courses were effective and productive in teaching- learning process. The findings of this study states that the courses, given at the typing are effective and sufficient. However, it is shown that the course programme of typing does not meet the needs of business life and should be prepared in the modular programme.
