Abstract (EN)

The need for clean drinking water has been increasing day by day, however the present treatment processes are becoming increasingly insufficient to meet this need. The environmental factors are taking significance on public health. These factors depend not only on the fact that new environmental factors begin to take effect but also on the fact that other public health problems begin to be controlled. For example, Ankara's drinking water needs are provided from Çamlıdere, Örnekkaya, Kurtboğazı, Kavşakkaya, Akyar, Çubuk-2 and Elmadağ dams. Since the existing water in these dams does not meet the need, water is also taken from the Kızılırmak River. However, additional research is needed on the removal of sulfate from waters with technologically and economically feasible methods, due to the negative health effects of excess sulfate in the water taken from the Kızılırmak River and used for drinking water purposes, such as causing diarrhea. In this study, sulfate removal by ion exchange method using Purolite A200 resin was investigated. In the study, the effect of resin amount, temperature, initial pH of the solution, initial sulfate concentration of the solution and mixing speed were investigated. As a result, in sulfate removal; it was observed that the initial pH value was not very effective, but the temperature, initial sulfate concentration, mixing speed and resin amount were effective and the removal increased with the increase in the values of these parameters. In this study, Langmuir isotherm was found to be a more suitable adsorption isotherm than Freundlich isotherm.
