Abstract (EN)

One of the conservation areas is the unique architecture and important historical site.These areas are not only economical importance but also reflect the economic, social, culturaland physical properties of communities or societies. For these reasons conservation areas interms of the ecoturizm is important for the assessment geographical potentials. Becausephysical environments affect the attitutes of the social, economical and historical properties ofsocieties that have been lived. Conservation covers both historical and cultural values. Inorder to illuminate the conservation areas many concepts such as site, cultural heritage aretaken into consideration.zmir has rich and different culture due to the fact that many civilizations establishedduring the its history. The identify of zmir is related to the historical background. As far asthe first quarter of XVII. century there was no development in the spatial and functionalproperties in zmir. The middle of XVII. century the Levantine society, engaged in tradeactivities, settled in zmir. With the settlement of the Levantine, the architecture, industry,trade and transportation systems of zmir had started to change.The architecture and the settlement of zmir changed and isolated with the set up ofthe Turkish, Levantine and Jewish districts. The rich society engaged in trade activities settledBornova, Buca and Karşıyaka districts which have resort areas with native plants and thesuitable for the inhabitant.Buca which was the Greek settlement area replaced by the English society. TheEnglish railway company setting up of the zmir - Aydın railway, also established a railwayconnecting Buca and zmir. This sitation created the enlargement of zmir settlement area andthe forming of the another cultural development with the establishing of horse race parcure ofBuca, increased the importance of Buca.The countryhouses in the Buca become much more compicous than the Bornova district. Levantines werecostructed building along the Station Street today Uğur Mumcu district. The country housesare remained and reflected the historical properties presently. Some of the ancient buildingswere destroyed.During the 18 and 19. centuries of the settlements in zmir are as follows: Namazgâh,Tilkilik, kiçeşmelik are belonged to Turkish districts. Mezarlıkbaşı district is Jewish,Basmane Armenia, Alsancak is Greek, 1. and 2. Cordons districts European society.Levantine sett Bornova, Buca and Karşıyaka.The architecture of the building belonging the mentioned society are in different form,in general. Although the street of Turkish districts is very narrow and houses with bowwindows, the settlements belonging to Levantines and Greeks are wide, and with largegarden. This station reflects the cultural, social and economic properties of the societies.The aim of this study is to assessment the cultural and historical properties of zmirand the importance of the settlements in terms of the thourism potentials. The other mostimportant aspects of zmir is to have different different societies which were lived together.The cultural and other heritages increase the historical, social and cultural properties of zmir.
