Abstract (EN)

The Bay of Izmir which is under the influence of both compression tectonics of Pre-Miocene time and the extension tectonics system of Post-Miocene time is made of three sections that are Inner, Middle and Outer Bay. Bathymetric studies, high resolution shallow seismic and side scan sonar methods were applied in order to investigate the active tectonics and recent faults of the Inner Bay of Izmir which is developed under the control of this tectonics. After these studies are finalized, it has been found out that in the Inner Bay which is located between the Seferihisar High and Nif Mountain High, is filled by recent sediments by forming the present basin.Furthermore, it has been identified that there exits a NE-SW oriented strike-slip fault in the Inner Bay of Izmir which is bordered by the Karşıyaka Fault Zone (KFZ) at north, and Izmir Fault Zone (IFZ) at south and is named as Inner Bay Fault (IBF).
