Research of urban environmental analysis ( Urban ecology) in Izmir metropolitan area : Case of Torbalı district

Cities are the areas densely inhabited by human communities. Nowadays, the impact of the human activity to environment in urban areas is very high. Natural ecosystems are in constant interaction with each other within the urban ecosystem. Thus, the ways this relationship is affected by the natural environment, need to be emphasized importantly, In this work, I attempted to compare the ecological status of the Torbaly province with the city of Izmir, looking at the history of the Torbaly by considering significant period of change in urbanization of the Torbaly. In considered period, Torbaly was connected with Izmir as a metropolis and also affected to the developing of Izmir. Those impacts are considered not only from geographical point of view, but also from historical, economics and social aspects. The considering of urban ecology is the major point of this work that makes it different from the other researches in this field. Also, in this study is clearly shown that the Torbali has some ecological problems, the main is a lack of green spaces and parks in the city centre. In order to maintain ecological harmony of the Torbaly, the importance of green areas should be taken into consideration. It seems that in the recent years, local municipality tries to solve this problem. Keywords: Human ecology, urban ecology, urban environmental analysis, İzmir, Torbalı.
