Abstract (EN)

This study aims to explore translator's visibility in the translation of intertextual elements and in paratexts in the literary translation context. Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre is used as a case study as it has a lot of references to the author's life and the social context of the time it was written. It also has various religious, classic, literary, and cultural allusions, through which the translators' choices on the translation of intertextuality can be analyzed. In the first three chapters, the theoretical framework is presented and the theories of literary translation, translator's (in)visibility, and intertextuality are discussed. The concepts of translator's invisibility and intertextuality are the main theories that are focused within the theoretical framework. Lastly, the corpus analysis is carried out in the fourth chapter. In the first part of the fourth chapter, translations of the intertextual elements, mainly allusions and quotations, are analysed in order to define translator's visibility. In the second part, the peritexts like prefaces, translator's notes, and book covers as well as epitexts like interviews and translator's blogs are examined as clear and concrete examples of visibility can be observed through such texts. A descriptive approach is adopted in the analyses conducted in the present study.
