Abstract (EN)
A wireless Sensor network consists of at least one base station and multiple sensornodes. Sensor nodes transmit the data they produced from the environment through theirsensors towards the base station. These nodes are battery powered devices and areexpected to operate for a long time where recharging may not be the case. Since itresults in maximal lifetime, energy efficiency is an important design objective.Optimization of the network lifetime can be achieved by balancing the energyconsumption equally within the whole network. Balanced energy consumption requiresnodes to split their flows to many other nodes in order to use them as relays towards thebase station. Thus, some nodes have too many inward links and some have too manyoutward links. This situation is not desirable since it may increase the networkcomplexity and require huge routing tables. In this study, at optimal network lifetimedata splitting characteristics of sensor nodes has been examined through a linearprogramming framework. In the second stage, using a mixed integer programmingframework, the impact of limiting number of inward and outward links on the lifetime ofwireless sensor networks has been analyzed.
