The analysis of sports management via personal narration of women managers: A case of Turkey

In this study, it is aimed to reveal the role of women in sports management and the problems they face by analyzing the experiences of women managers through their personal narratives and the problems they encounter during their work. Research has been carried out 20 women sports managers who takes place in different sports organizations and institutions in Turkey. In the study designed according to qualitative research the in-depth interview method was used. During in-depth-interviews; opportunities and obstacles faced by female managers in sports management, career opportunities, social rights and freedoms, their views on work life balance, as well as their perceptions about their profession, job satisfaction, life satisfaction and the like questions and similar themes are included. Content and document analysis techniques were also used to analyze the data on the subject. The data were coded by subjecting them to content analysis. The themes that emerged with the codings are presented in the findings section. According to the findings, although the participants faced problems related to gender vary, there are also common problems. It has been reached the findings that Female sports managers are subject to obstruction in their work are as due to their gender. Female managers with their experiences in the context of gender demonstrates the difficulty of being a woman manager in Turkey. Although women were not preferred for promotion as a manager, it is gratifying that social acceptance began to develop slowly. As the reasons for not choosing Female managers; the values and judgments of the society, the role of the married in the family and childcare are the main problems encountered.
