Kadıoglu's Kısas-ı Anbiya (181b-309b) (Review-text)

After the acceptance of Islam, works on religious and Sufi subjects began to be published in order to educate and inform the public. Many topics and ideas have been tried to be brought to our literature through translations from Arabic and Persian literature. Instructive works have been written on translations from the Quran, hadith translations and many subjects about Sufism. One of these instructive works is the stories of the prophets. These stories include the lives of the prophets, their miracles and exemplary narratives. Poets also created their works based on what they heard about the prophets and what they learned from the Quran and other holy books. He added richness to the work he wrote according to the poet's style and knowledge. Initially, the stories of the prophets were introduced into our literature through translations from Sa'lebí and Kisâí. Later, the poet wrote the stories according to his style by passing the subjects through his own imagination. Although the Kısas-ı Enbiyâ genre is generally written in prose works, there are also poetic works. Among the poetic works, Kısas-ı Enbiyâ, written by Hindi Mahmûd in 1579, has the distinction of being the first poetic work in Turkish literature. However, it is estimated that the copy we have was written in the 14th or 15th centuries due to the language features used by this person, who had the pseudonym Kadıoglu but we could not identify in the biographies. This work, written in verse, has an important place in our literature in terms of subject and language features.
