Knowledge levels of cardiovascular surgery intensive care nurses about delirium

Objective: This study was carried out in a descriptive type to examine the level of knowledge about delirium of nurses working in the cardiovascular surgery intensive care unit. Method: The universe of the research is a training and research hospital located in the province of Istanbul, and sample selection was not made. The study was conducted with a nurse working in the cardiovascular surgery intensive care unit (n=73) who voluntarily agreed to participate in the study. "Sociodemographic and Descriptive Information Form" and "Delirium Knowledge Test for Intensive Care Nurses", which measures the knowledge level of nurses about delirium, were used to collect the research data. The obtained data were analyzed using the SPSS 21.0 program. Result: As a result of the study: When the sociodemographic characteristics of the Cardiovascular Surgery Intensive Care Unit (KVCYBU) nurses were examined; 72.6% of the ICU nurses in which the study was conducted were female, 63% were single, 58.9% were between the ages of 26-30, 84.9% were undergraduate graduates, 71.2% had 1-5 years of professional experience. , 56.2% worked in the unit for more than 3 years, 57.5% were responsible for the care of 1-2 patients, 90.4% worked in the range of 40-60 weekly working hours, 84.3% were at night it was determined that they worked mixed during the daytime, 54.8% of them were educated about delirium, 78.1% of them did not live with an elderly individual, 83.6% of them did not live with an individual with a psychiatric problem. The mean "delirium knowledge total" of nurses is 18,219 ± 3,888, the mean of "risk factors and causes of delirium" is 6.603 ± 1.963, the mean of "delirium results" is 2,548 ± 0.646 ,"delirium assessment" mean 1.863 ± 0.902 , "pharmacological and non-pharmacological management of delirium" mean 5.438 ± 1.364 8 found. Conclusion: In general, it was concluded that the knowledge of 73 nurses participating in the study about delirium was moderate.
