Abstract (EN)
Throughout its historical improvement, the public sculptures which always close contact with the society, sometimes erected as an propaganda and sometimes commemorational, are very important in the Art History. From the Reinessance to the present day, the public sculptures which has been evoluated by social and culturel changes, are integral parts of the Sculpture Art.Mankind has acted with an attitude of leaving permanent signs throughout the history of human civilization. Communities always have erected monuments, statues, monumental buildings as an example from the Stonhenge to the Sphenx, from the Giza pyramids to the Eiffel tower. If these signs are designed to passed to the future generations, public sculptures are thougt to be crucially important as a result.The public sculptures have been a vital part of the civic, with the major expression on the society. Until 20th century, the public sculptures just had pictured a theme or an object, then they were focused on abstract works by the expression of the modern art in the first half of the 20th century, as a result, sculptures have got richness with various forms, significations and materials. The public areas have became important with the improvement of the urban concept, and the sculptures in public areas have shaped the identity and the silhouette of the cities.As a modern city, İzmir also have many sculptures in the public areas. These sculptures have committed more same themes, unfortunately this habit has not vanished from the Republic period to the present day. The anxiety of the issue is that sculpture have to have understandable subject and easy acceptance by the society. Whereas the public sculptures which have a good study on the relationship with the social and physical enviromental such as subject, socio-culturel acceptability and placement issues, can reach the desired success.
