Abstract (EN)

In Turkey, national media has gradually become either a representation of political influence or part the global media both in terms of its capital and content. It has become the most significant and further a strategic area for the communication and news to acquire importance and for spreading the values of the market economy. This global system, while destructing national, regional identities and freedoms; issues such as democracy, mass participation and public sphere are also suppressed by the ideology of advertising and ratings. Nation-states are directly forced to face with the capitalist holding companies via dominance of private sector on media which once had a very important function in strengthening the relation between the state and the society. Therefore, in Turkey, similar to other states, state (public power) has also started to intervene in media ownership and its content. Nevertheless, when the state lost its power, all the opportunities were transferred to media and by so, to the private cooperations. However, newly emerging non-governmental organizations and institutions in Turkey have reacted to this situation. It has become an obligations to restrict the limits of this commercials of media (whose ownership is in the hands of investors and which represents these investors' nations in propagandist ways); to create a media that strengthen regional and identical differences, public interests, citizenship rights and most of all democracy and freedoms; to develop independent regional or thematic media to support or even to re-produce the public broadcasting and journalism.
