The relationship between perceived social support, psychological resilience and fear of cancer recurrence in cancer survivor

Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted in order to examine the relationship between perceived social support, psychological resilience and fear of cancer recurrence in cancer survivors. The sample of this study conducted in the descriptive and correlation-seeking research design are consisted of 210 people who are being followed up after cancer at Ankara Dr. Abdurrahman Yurtaslan Oncology Training and Research Hospital. Patient Identification Data Form, Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale (MSPSS), Brief Psychological Resilience Scale (BPRS), Fear of Cancer Recurrence Inventory (FCRI) were used in collection data. The data obtained in the study were analyzed using the free trial version of SPSS Statistics (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) for Windows 25.0 and AMOS 21 programs. Descriptive statistical methods (number, percentage, mean, standard deviation) were used while evaluating the data. Pearson correlation analysis was applied to investigate the relationship between variables. "Reliability Analysis" was made to test the reliability of the scales and "Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA)" was made to test the suitability of the model. Then, the models were tested with path analysis to measure mediation variables using structural equation modeling. Bootstrap test was applied to test the significance of the mediation effect. In the study, p values below 0.05 were considered significant. According to the results of the study; It was determined that there was a significant and positive correlation between perceived social support and psychological resilience, a significant and negative correlation between perceived social support and fear of recurrence and a significant and negative correlation between psychological resilience and fear recurrence. Additionally, psychological resilience was found to have a mediating role in the relationship between perceived social support and fear of recurrence. As a result of the study findings, psychosocial interventions that will increase the psychological resilience and perceived social support level of individuals who cancer survivor may reduce the level of fear of recurrence of these individuals.
