Abstract (EN)
"Investigation of Kanun Performance in Technical and Functional Aspects in Comparison of them in Turkish and Azerbaijan Music" is the theme of this dissertation for master degree. It's prepared in the Institute of Social Sciences of the Ege University. As a result of research, the historical development, performance technique, decorations, production, musicians, kanun methods and musical works in Turkey and Azerbaijan, are represented. In this study the kanun's and other countries musical instruments' similarities are analyzed. The kanun structure, performance techniques and etudes in Turkey and Azerbaijan are compared. Though in Iran, Egypt and Azerbaijan a lot of investigations were done by the Middle Asia music scientists especially about Abdulkadir Mergai, the kanun is not known well in any aspect and scientifically not investigated enough yet. In Azerbaijan the most important investigations about the kanun's historical development, sound features and spheres of use were performed by U. Hacibeyov, S. Abdullaeva, S. Elesgerov, E. Rehmetov, E. Bedelbeyli, A. Necefzade and F. Ezimli. Due to these investigators the kanun resumed its well-deserved place in the musical education and the world literature. The kanun methods and investigations in Turkey are more than in Azerbaijan. In spite of the fact that such masters as I. Sencalar, U. Mutlu, H. Karaduman, T. Tezelli worked on the kanun methods, "the kanun production course" hasn't resumed its well-deserved place at universities, because of the matter of master-apprentice. Apart from kanun classic genre performance techniques, the kanun can be used for many other performance techniques in many other kinds of music. The purpose of this dissertation is to investigate the kanun's history, production, artist and technical possibilities and compare its performance features in Turkey and Azerbaijan. The work consists of 8 parts. The theme of the first part is "The history of stringed musical instruments which are similar to kanun". The second part is "The short story of Turkish and Azerbaijan kanun". The third part is "The structural features of kanun and its producers." The forth part is "The Turkish and Azerbaijan kanun players in the history." The fifth part is "Kanun methods". The sixth part is "Pieces of music for kanun." These parts are connected with each other. The seventh part is "The functional comparison of kanun in Turkey and Azerbaijan." The eighths part is "The kanun performance and decoration techniques", which includes appreciation of achievements of the initial parts.
