Abstract (EN)
Epidemics have occurred at various time intervals throughout history, affecting cities, countries and sometimes a large part of the world, causing material and moral damages. Owing to the developments in science and developing technologies, the recurrence of many epidemics in the past can be prevented, but the whole process can be experienced again with the emergence of a new epidemic disease. The time spent in the process of defining the epidemic disease and implementing the treatment processes can increase the impact of epidemics on societies depending on the speed of spread. In the case of an epidemic disease transmitted by respiratory tract, changes may occur in the flow of social life. The discipline of architecture, like all other disciplines, can be under the influence of these changes. While some buildings may become temporarily dysfunctional during the epidemic, health buildings can be reshaped for the epidemic. This unusual situation may cause disruptions and restrictions in health services. Within the scope of the thesis, a design guide has been developed over the indoor sports facilities by evaluating the strategy of re-functioning the existing building stock in order to maintain health services during the epidemic disease processes transmitted by respiratory tract. In the first part of the thesis, which consists of five parts, the aim, scope, assumption and method of the thesis are discussed and general information about the subject is given. In second part; spatial strategies developed to sustain health services during epidemics were evaluated by considering epidemic diseases and health service needs in epidemic disease processes. In the third part; In this study, the criteria determined in the light of the obtained data were included, by giving place to the researches carried out for the re-functioning of the existing building stock during the epidemic process and the interviews with experts in the field. In the fourth chapter; Within the existing building stock, the design guide for the re-functioning of indoor sports facilities, which may be temporarily suspended during the epidemic processes, is included. Considering all phases of the epidemic, the action steps that can be followed for the implementation of proposals are also evaluated in this section. In the fifth chapter, which is the last part of the study, the results and evaluations about the researches, interviews, spatial strategies analyzed and the suggestions are explained.
