Research on hand printed head scarves and leather products which are exist in Safranbolu town of Karabük province

Research was conducted on five sellers, including two flat-heeled shoe producers, one sandal shoe maker, one shoemaker and one saddler, located in Ottoman bazaar of Safranbolu city.Analysis of the findings indicates that employees working in leather and flat-heeled shoe production are mostly seen primary school graduates and males. It is also seen that the producers learn their jobs from their fathers through mentor system. There are mostly two people, one place owner and the other artisan, in the place of business.The research aims to analyze and document the leather products and flat-heeled shoe types produced in the Ottoman bazaar of Safranbolu city. With this aim, interviews with employees working in this industry in research site have been conducted. Product information form used in the interview has been developed by the researcher. Frequency and percentage analysis of data obtained has been conducted.Photos of the leather products taken by the researcher have been analyzed in terms of their techniques, colors used, patterns, composition, usage place have been provided to the reader in form of tables.It has been found that geometrical patterns have been used in decorative products. Besides, compositions that are composed of figures of objects, plants, etc. are also available. These products which have mostly black and brown colors are made through techniques of hand sewn and machine stitch, usage of standby equipment and by usage of printing technique.Accessories for clothing, daily usage, hunting, plus draw gear and saddle have been produced by using leather in the ottoman bazaar of Safranbolu city.Leather is an elastic material with high resistance potential that is easily shaped and that can protect the shape given. Due to these characteristics, leather has been used in production of various products and ornaments with various techniques being employed on leather. Documentation of leather products and flat-heeled shoe production will contribute to development of leather arts and to national culture through transferring knowledge of leather to next generations.
