Abstract (EN)

II SUMMARY PhD Thesis SOME PHYSOLOGİCAL EFFECTS OF CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) ON CUCUMBER ( Cucumis sativus) AND WHEAT (Triticum aestivum) PLANTS AND INVESTIGATION OF BIOCHEMICAL RELATIONS OF THESE EFFECTS Yaşar KIRAN Fırat university Graduate School of Natural Applied Sciences Department of Biology 2000, Page: 83 In this study, changes related to the growth of seedling and germination of cucumber on {Cucumis sativus) and wheat (Triticum aestivum) plants caused by carbon monoxide were determined parametrically. After that, metabolic side of this phenomenons were tried to be enlightened by biochemical analysis. For this, test and control plants were subjected to the hormone and protein analysis. However, the pigment amount of experimental plants were obtained by comparing them with control plants. According to the results obtained, concentrations of CO in 75, 150 and 300 ppm did not effect the germination of the seeds The 600 ppm CO concentration was effected the seed germination at a low ratio. The germination was effected at an important level by 1200 ppm CO concentration. Germination of both wheat and cucumber seeds were entirely stopped in 1600 ppm CO concentration irreversibly. As a result of hormone analysis, in the seeds inhibited by the application of CO (1600 ppm), auksin, gibberelline and cytochinine synthesis were seen to be closer to the level in normal seeds. But a relative increasment was observed at inhibitor substance level. Protein and hormon analyses were done on both CO gas applied and unapplied cucumber seedlings. According to the results of this analysis, a decreasement was observed in the amount of the protein depending on the increasing concentrations of CO gas. Carotenoid amount was increased while chlorophyll a chlorophyll b, and total chlorophyll amounts were decreased dramatically. Key words: Carbon Monoxide, germination, seedling growth, plant hormone, protein analysis, pigment analysis.
