Abstract (EN)

Different training practices have different effects on body components and serum lipids, leptin, ghrelin hormones. This study aims to investigate the effects of cardio tennis exercises, which is a different kind of training, on lipid metabolisms of sedentary middle aged women. For this aim, the effects of chronic cardio tennis exercises on the levels of total cholesterol, triglisirid, LDL-cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, leptin, ghrelin hormone levels of middle aged sedentary women and the changes in body component changes have been studied. The sampling group of the study consists of 30 sedentary women aged 44.40 ± 3.89 years with an average height of 162.4 ± 4.63 cm. The volume of exercises has been defined at %40-70 heart rate reserve (HRR) by karvonen method. The density of exercises has been tracked with Polar M 400 GPRS pulse monitor. Cardio tennis exercises have been applied 3 days a week for 10 weeks with a 10 minutes warm-up, 40 minutes cardio tennis exercises and 10 minutes cooling down. Body components of the exercise group participants have been analyzed before (baseline), in the middle (5.week) and after (10. week) the program with TANITA BC-418 USA brand bioelectric impedance analyzer and blood samples have been taken in order to define lipid metabolisms. All the measurements and bloodletting have been done in morning hours after a 8-10 hour hungriness. SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) statistical package program has been used for the evaluation of the data obtained from the study and for forming the tables. After defining the normality of the data with Shapiro-Wilks test, variance analysis has been used for the repeated measurements for the data that showed normal distribution. Friedman test has been used for the data that did not show normal distribution. According to the findings of the study, a meaningful difference has been for HDL cholesterol levels of sedentary women (p<0.05). No statistical meaningful difference has been found in terms of total cholesterol, triglesirid, LDL-cholesterol parameters although some positive decreases have been found. No statistically meaningful difference has been found in terms of leptin and ghrelin hormone levels of sedentary middle aged women after ten weeks exercise (p>0.05). When the changes in body components of sedentary middle aged women have been investigated, a meaningful decrease has been found in the body mass index, body fat percentage, body fat weight, hip and waist circumference and resting pulse rate (p<0,01). No statistically meaningful difference has been found for body muscle weight, body water weight and basic metabolic speed (p>0.05). As a result, it has been observed that regular cardio tennis exercises have a positive effect on the body components of sedentary women but only increase HDL-cholesterol in lipid metabolism parameters.
