Abstract (EN)
One of the most important environmental problems today is the storage of waste. The quality of groundwater has been seriously compromised due to the wrong storage method. Problems related to public health and environmental pollution are often more common in landfills. These open dumps cause many disadvantages and serious health problems as well. For this reason, case events that caused slope failures that occurred in landfills before were examined. These landfills; Hekimbaşı Landfill (Turkey), Dona Juana Landfill (Colombia), Gnojna Grora Landfill (Poland), Hiriya Landfill (Israel), Payatas Landfill (Philippines) and Xerolakka Landfill (Greece). In this study, the back analysis method was preferred to predict shear strength. The analysis data were evaluated and suggestions were made about how the landfills should be. The reason for the slope failures in the landfills is the lack of engineering controls and the lack of design. Instability has been experienced especially in areas where daily cover is not laid, where there is no compression, where flammable and toxic gases are not kept under control.
