Abstract (EN)
In recent years, due to too often experienced crisis in the financial system, the search for alternatives has started to rise and in this direction Islamic finance has become the focus of attention both in the world and Turkey. The Islamic banking, initially established under the name of private financial institutions in Turkey and today known as participation banks, have been working under the principle of the profit-loss sharing instead of interest. The asset size constitute 5% of the whole banking sector. This study aims to determine whether participation banks use resources more efficient than conventional banks. The efficiency performance of deposit banks and participation banks operating in Turkey between 2006-2012 is analyzed with data envelopment analysis. To analyze the change in the level of efficiency over the years, Malmquist TFV Index is used. Analysis shows that, participation banks use their resources more efficient than conventional banks.
