An analysis of a sample incident on the enriched programme applied to a gifted child in a mainstreaming environment and a research on the efficiency of the programme

HI ABSTRACT In this research X who was identified as a gifted child was taken into hand, and the research was carried out in order to determine the effects of the implemented enriched programme on X and class. As this research has been carried out at Ankara Maya Private Primary School, which bases its educational programme on the Multiple Intelligences Theory, X has been applied by the Multiple Intelligences Theory along side with the enriched programme.In the research case study modelling was used and the data was achieved through literature review and anecdote techniques. The method used in gathering the data provided the opportunity to study, understand and to identify X who is the core subject of the research. At the end of the research it was concluded that to learn in mainstreaming environment is motivating for both the gifted child and also her friends, enriching the teaching, creating a self improvement environment. Moreover, it was concluded that the idea of teacher's keeping the gifted child with her peers helps to contribute the child's physical, cognitive and psychological development and particularly her social adaptation. Further more, the applications of enriched programmes which are arranged according to child's ability levels would increase positively not only the gifted child and her peers but also the quality of teaching applied in the class. At the end of this research it was observed that, the gifted child faced some problems in the mainstreaming enviroment. However, these problems were not more than the problems that ordinary students might face. To sum up, this reseach has been carried out in order to provide an enriched and suitable programme according to her cognitive level by observing X with her peers. The application of the enriched programme in this research is limited by X and her classmates. Nevertheless, it was hoped that this research would help such events which arise today or which may arise in the future. There is no doubt that this research would provide contribution for the fact that we should not loose even a single gifted child.
