Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, design and simulation of ultra wide band gain flattened optical amplifier system is performed and C band erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) is experimentally examined. S, C, and L band signals are independently amplified and is combined to get ultra wide band gain flattened optical amplifiers. EDFA is used for C and L band amplification, fiber Raman amplifier (FRA) is used for S band amplification. For the gain flattenning process of L band and C band EDFA, passive optical filters are inserted subsequent sections between erbium doped fibers (EDF). Thus, the signals experienced a high gain are clipped and a flat gain spectrum is obtained at the output. For the gain flattenning process in S band FRA, FRA has been pumped using six pump sources and could therefore be a flat gain spectrum obtained. The simulation of the amplifiers with different configuration is simulated using OptiAmplifier 4.0 software. Simulation results show that a gain of 24 dB, 0,1 dB gain deviation for C and L bands, 0,3 dB gain deviation for S band, and a total bandwidth of 120 nm are achieved. Finally, the gain of a C band EDFA is experimentally examined as a function of the pump power, input signal power, and the temperature.
