The views of the veterans, who participated in the Cyprus Peace Operation and the analysis of these views in terms of the values of the social studies curriculum

Cyrpus, which has a strategic location in the Eastern Mediterranean, is very important for Turkey. It hosted many civilizations before and after history. It fell under the rule of the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century and remained under the Ottoman rule for about 307 years. The Ottoman-Russian War, which took place between 1877-1878 in the 19th century, led to some problems. As a result of the problems experienced, Cyprus was leased to the United Kingdom. United Kingdom annexed Cyprus in 1914; and, with the the Treaty of Lausanne, Turkey recognized that Cyprus belonged to England. British domination continued until the 1960, when the Republic of Cyprus was founded. Turkey was never silent about the massacres against the Turks with the Enosis policies. Turkey carried out the Cyprus Peace Operation in 1974 to ensure the security of the Turkish Cypriots. In this study, interviews were made with 7 veterans in Denizli and 6 veterans in Muğla. Data obtained from the veterans were analyzed in terms of the values of the Social Studies Curriculum which was updated in 2018. Also, the course books studied at the 5th, 6th, and 7th grades of secondary schools were examined and the place of Cyprus Peace Operation in Social Studies Curriculum was determined.
