Reflections of developments (1955-1974) in Cyprus on Kutahya press

Cyprus island which is close to Anatolia, the Turkish homeland, has been under the heel of the Turks because of its geographical location in the period of Ottomans for a long time. In the periods that is under the heel of the Turks, it has become a Turkish homeland by being exposed to Turkish culture. The island which comes under domination of the English in that time by pushing the limits has had some kind of disturbances. The Greek community in the island has risen against the English administiration at the beginning to make their Enosis (union of cyprus) purposes come true. The Greek who try to reach their union goal have seen the Turks as a different obstacle. They have tried to exterminate the Turks by implementing the Akritas plan. The cries of the suffering of the Turks in the island of Cyprus were echoed by the press in Anatolia.The fact that theTurkish pres closely followed the events in Cyprus and the fact that the Turkish people did not remain indifferent to the events, made it easier for the Turkish government to intervene in the events in Cyprus. Cyprus Peace Operation which was held by the Republic of Turkey in 1974, has been plunged into the life of Turks in Cyprus hold.In this study, the reflections of developments in Cyprus between 1955-1974 were examined in Kütahya press. Kutahya, during the Ottoman period, is one of the major cities that undertook the education of princes and had a say in the state administration. The purpose of choosing the reflections of the developments in Cyprus, not the reflections in the national press, but the local press in Kütahya, is to investigate how the events resonated in the city where the Turkısh homeland had grown princes and had a certain experience in the state administration, what was thought in the local area and how it was reacted. The material used in this study was the local newspapers published in Kütahya at the time, Prime Ministry Archive Documents and copyrighted works.
