Kemahlı Ebu'l-Kemâl Sheikh Ibrâhim Hakkı and the work of Miftâhu'l-Ma'ârif

Kemahlı Ebu'l-Kemâl Şeyh İbrâhim Hakkı Efendi is recognized as one of the most important Sufi personalities of the 20th century, notable for his works, scholarly activities, and proximity to the palace. His life began in Müşekrek Village of Kemah District, Erzincan in 1859, progressing through religious and Sufi education, travels to the Hijaz region, Damascus, and Egypt, as well as journeys to various cities in Turkey, culminating in his appointment as a palace preacher. Devoted to knowledge and scholarly publications throughout his life, Şeyh İbrâhim Hakkı Efendi, the last sheikh of the Erzincan Mevlevi Lodge, passed away in his hometown of Erzincan on October 14, 1924. He is buried in Terzibaba Cemetery. Therefore, our study emphasizes a chronological approach, highlighting his religious and Sufi aspects based on available data and previous research. Kemahlı İbrâhim Hakkı's work "Miftâhu'l-Ma'ârif," one of the five published works, holds significant importance due to its treatment of topics such as existence, knowledge, and spiritual journey, among others, and the approaches taken towards these topics. Examining these four main themes from religious and Sufi perspectives, and particularly the interpretation provided by the author himself from his position as a sheikh, underscores the significance of the work. We believe that our study, by filling a gap in Sufi literature and introducing the author and his work, will be important both academically and in promoting understanding.
