Abstract (EN)

Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the attachment styles, religious orientation and perceived social support in individuals with suicide attempt through self-poisoning.Method: Sixty patients with suicide attempt through self-poisining who were admitted to Dicle University Medical Faculty Hospital and 60 healthy subjects without any psychiatric history and with similar demographical features have been included in the study. Sociodemographical Data Form, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support and Religious Orientation Scale were applied to all participants.Results: In patients group, with regard to social support sub-scale scores of family and friends were significantly lower than comparison group. Intrinsic and extrinsic-personal religious sub-scale scores in the comparison group were significantly higher than the patient group. Ambivalent attachment style were found predominantly in individuals with suicide attempt and secure attachment style were detected predominantly in the comparison group.Conclusion: Percieved family and friend support, intrinsic religiousness, extrinsic-personal religiousness, and secure attachment style have been detected to be important factors in terms of suicide attempt through self-poisoning.
