Abstract (EN)
The aim of this research is to examine the physical changes of the wharf squares related to different conditions and changes in process of urban development. Different regions of İstanbul are examined to create a typical model.In the first stage the aims and the process of thesis are mentioned. In the second stage, general concepts as space, urban space, squares are explained. Also legal process of İstanbul shore is examined.In the third stage, the importance of transportation at the shores, wharfs, the typical pattern of port development are explored and afterwards the historical development process of İstanbul wharfs are investigated.In the fourth stage, different parts of İstanbul shore which are chosen according to thesis process, are analysed, their locations, general characteristics and historical progresses are explored. To compare the differences in historical process, Pervititch maps and aerial photos of today are used.Different locations and development areas of İstanbul are examined and these different areas also must be preserved and kept alive in different ways, in conclusion part its? importance is mentioned.Keywords: Wharf, square, shore, typology
