A research on relationship between urban conservation and urban design case study tokat

Urban design and urban conservation are two important approaches in urban planningdisciplinary. A planning study which is maintain urban conservation areas needs to urbandesign for maintain and conserve spatial character. In the plan making process is determinedspecific decisions and criteria for construct relationship between urban design and spatialdimension. With historical richness in our country; there are various cultural assets belongingto various period of history. An academic interest on these assets began in 19.th period. Withthe degradation of heritage caused by world war I. & II. War; an interest on this culturalheritage is raised. It was observed that cities design with modern urbanism criteria was startedto lose their identities so various theories were developed, within several conference. InTurkey attention to act assets is recognised first Asar-ı Atika (1874) and with law of ?AncientArt? (the number of law 1710). But rapid urbanisation process has created a heavy pressureon conservation of historical parts of urban areas. With the establishment of GEEAYK (1956)there are various efforts on preservation of historical environment is not achieved.In this study urban design criteria is researched in order to get success for the decisions onwhole urban conservation areas and maintain the integration with urban identity. Urbandesign supplies a board theoretical perspective. In this respect an integrated approach withinurban discipline was taken and researched on the way of evolution and conservation of urbanconservation areas. Planning has a change through positive way in its nature. In this respect, itis not possible to plan conservation areas with museum manner. In this study in order to getsuccess in planning of conservation areas, basic criteria is researched and supplied. In thisrespect, planners have to think about these criteria and analyze how planner?s design is relatedwith these criteria before the planning intervention. Conservation areas are conserved andtheir spatial characteristics are not degraded. A performance evolution can be done. In thisrespect, the thesis is divided into six main parts including introduction part that gives generalinformation about the study, conceptual analysis part that gives the relation between urbanplanning and urban design analysing criteria in this manner. Third part constitutes conceptualanalysis insisting on legal aspects and process, fourth part is about relations between urbanconservation and urban design that criteria are integrated within planning concept. Fifth partis the research about conservation aimed development plan of Tokat evaluated by the criteria.Last part is the conclusion part.Key words: Urban design, urban conservation, relations of urban design criteria in urbanconservation areas, TokatJURY:1.
