Abstract (EN)

With its location in the city, its texture, with very important and valuable cultural structures it has, Galata coastal area is a very important part of the city - Istanbul - which is a world heritage with its historical, natural and cultural characteristics, it has to be developped and protected considering its natural values. Galata coastal area should be analized carefully, and should be evaluated as an active area of conceptual design which contributes to social and cultural development. For this purpose, first, architectural concepts that determines the problems about the area are defined and explained. Then Galata coast is introduced, the development of the area is explained and the analysis titles for the project area is examined. Also, Genoa port is studied with its design critarias and analysis methods, Kartal and Küçükçekmece urban design works are studied with their analysis methods in the thesis. After that, concepts that display the problems with the area are evaluated by analysis titles of the projects; a study is made about with which architectural design concept, analysis title directly enters the design. Finally, it is discussed that whether the studied analysis methods are correct and enough for an understand area or not.
