Sound insulation on facades of buildings in urban design: Gaziantep Akkent Congress Center facade examination

Insulation improvements added to existing buildings can be both costly and insufficient to provide sufficient comfort. In this respect, the selection of appropriate materials for building facades is important for determining the acoustic performance by considering external noise data representing both current and future conditions. The inclusion of insulation in the design under the control of acoustic experts by conducting an interdisciplinary study from the first stages of the architectural project is a factor that should be considered in terms of providing ideal architectural comfort on building facades. In this thesis study on sound insulation on building facades; First of all, national and international literature review was made and noise, noise control, sound insulation on building facades, architectural acoustics, etc. The concepts are analyzed in terms of architecture. In the continuation of the research, the legislations in our country was examined and the building facades were analyzed on the basis basis of the "Regulation on the Protection of Buildings Against Noise" published on 31 May 2017 by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization in Turkey to ensure auditory comfort. In the light of the information obtained, the method was determined and based on the importance of congress centers in tje context of city, Gaziantep Akkent Congress Center, which is exposed to road traffic on both sides of Gaziantep, was chosen as a sample. As a result of the examinations about the sample, facade analysis was made and suggestions were made by using the building-specific simulation program (Insul). In line with the research data; The architectural acoustic performance of the existing façade of the congress center has been evaluated within the scope of the regulation. Research findings were reported and suggestions were made. It is foreseen that the projects carried out in this way will adapt more easily to the benefits of the digital age and will contribute to creating economical, innovative, quality and comfortable spaces as part of a sustainable system.
