Abstract (EN)

The transfer of animals from one place to another due to reasons such as animal sales in enterprises, diagnosis and treatment practices that cannot be done on-site, and slaughter is a frequent situation in almost every enterprise. For whatever reason, animals are under the influence of different levels of adverse conditions regarding the transport conditions and duration during transport. This study was carried out to minimize and/or prevent yield losses due to stress situations during animal transport. In the study, a total of 36 Akkaraman fed controls at the age of 12 months were divided into 3 groups as propolis-75 (75 mg/kg orally) and propolis-150 (150 mg/kg orally). Before and after transport (approximately 8.5 hours), the animals' live weights were weighed and their blood samples were taken and analyzed. The pH measurements were made in the warm carcass of slaughtered animals, and oxidative stress parameters were examined in liver tissues and fatty acid compositions of muscle tissues were determined. It was determined that the live weight losses in the Control, P75 and P150 groups due to transportation (3.50, 2.23 and 1.92 kg, respectively) were statistically significant (P<0.05). It was determined that there were statistically significant differences within the group in the blood glucose, cholesterol, AST, ALP and CK of all groups, MDA of Control and P75 groups, triglyceride of Control and P150 groups, total protein and creatinine of P75 and P150 groups, urea of Control group, GGT of P75 group, and VLDL of P150 group (P˂0.05). Additionally, it was determined that there were statistically significant differences between the groups in glucose, triglyceride, AST, CK, creatinine and MDA values due to transportation stress (P˂0.05). MDA, GSH and GPx values of liver tissues taken from yearlings after slaughter were statistically different from the Control group in the treatment groups (P75 and P150), while the value of CAT was statistically different from each other in all groups (11.38, 33.91 and 45.75 U/mg protein in the Control, P75 and P150 groups, respectively). In the fatty acid composition and pH examination of the muscle tissues taken from the carcasses, it was determined that the differences between the groups were insignificant (P>0.05). As a result, it was determined that the different doses of propolis used in this study had significant positive effects on the transportation stress of Akkaraman Yearlings.
