Abstract (EN)
In this study, it was aimed to determine the predictive role of interpersonal emotion regulation, emotional dysregulation, and sexual self-confidence on divorce indicators. The study employed a two-stage methodology, consisting of scale adaptation and quantitative analysis. In the scale adaptation phase, the Emotional Dysregulation Questionnaire was adapted into Turkish, and its psychometric properties were evaluated. The study sample consists of 767 married and divorced individuals (471 women and 296 men) residing in various provinces of Turkey. Data on divorce indicators were collected using the Divorce Indicators Scale, while interpersonal emotion regulation was assessed through the Interpersonal Emotion Regulation Questionnaire. Additionally, emotional dysregulation was evaluated with the Emotional Dysregulation Questionnaire, and sexual self-confidence was measured using the Sexual Self-Confidence Scale. Demographic characteristics were collected using a "Personal Information Form." In the Turkish adaptation study of the Emotional Dysregulation Questionnaire, validity was assessed through linguistic validity, concurrent validity, and confirmatory factor analysis, while reliability was evaluated using the Cronbach's alpha internal consistency coefficient. Pearson correlation analysis was conducted to examine the relationships among the study variables, and multiple linear regression analysis was employed to evaluate the predictive effects of interpersonal emotion regulation, emotional dysregulation, and sexual self-confidence on divorce indicators. To determine whether divorce indicators differed according to gender, age, marital status, duration of marriage, and parental status, independent-samples t-tests and one-way ANOVA were conducted. The findings indicate that the Emotional Dysregulation Scale is a valid and reliable instrument for application in the Turkish cultural context. Regression analysis reveals that the independent variables account for 27.8% of the variance in the total scores of the Divorce Indicators Scale, and the model is statistically significant [F(15,751)=19.239, p<.05]. Furthermore, analyses show significant differences in divorce indicators based on marital status and age, whereas no significant differences are observed according to gender, duration of marriage, or parental status. Specifically, the "social modeling" subscale of interpersonal emotion regulation significantly and negatively predicts divorce indicators. The "internalization" subscale of emotional dysregulation exerts a significant positive effect on divorce indicators. Regarding sexual self-confidence, the "self-disclosure" subscale significantly and negatively predicts divorce indicators, whereas the "sexual assertiveness" subscale significantly and positively predicts them. These findings are discussed in the context of the extant literature, and practical implications and recommendations for researchers and practitioners are provided.
