Abstract (EN)

The communication between at least two people, which can be verbal or nonverbal and can be realized by common symbols is called interpersonal communication. Body language is a means of agreement that is used before people enter into a dialogue. After the beginning of the conversation, body language becomes an important means of reflecting feelings and thoughts in communication. The purpose of this study is to investigate the importance of body language in interpersonal communication. In this context, the analysis of the study was completed by using the data obtained by the survey technique from the academicians. Personal Information Form, Interpersonal Relationship Dimensions Scale, and Body Language Scale were used as data collection tools. The sample of the research is composed of 149 academicians residing in Istanbul province. The obtained data were analyzed and interpreted in SPSS statistical package software. Participants were generally found to have higher scores on the Interpersonal Relationships Scale and average scores on the Body Language Scale. According to the results of the research, it has been determined that there is a significant relationship between trust in others, dependence on interpersonal approval, empathy level and body language.
