The evaluation of the relationship between sexual dysfunction and marital adjustment in women meeti̇ng personality disorder criteria

This study aims to investigate the relationship between marital adjustment and sexual dysfunction in women with symptoms of personality disorder (PD). Even though in the existing literature, personality disorders are among the subjects which are mostly discussed by the academics, the role of disorders and sexual dysfunctions in interpersonal relationships is considerably overlooked by researchers. The results of this current study, which was conducted on 60 female participants meeting PD criteria in Istanbul, should be regarded as highly significant findings since they properly point out the relationship between personality disorders, marital adjustment and sexual dysfunctions. During the process of sampling, 80 female participants were asked to answer the related questionnaires; however, since 14 of the participants did not demonstrate any symptoms of PD and 6 participants did not answer the questionnaires properly, they were excluded from the sample of this study. The negative relationship between number of childbirth and sexual dysfunctions can be counted as one of the significant findings of this research. It was revealed that women with more than one child are 60 percent more vulnerable to suffer from communication deficits. This rate was observed as 40 percent for those who did not have any children. Similar findings can also be seen in the participants with frequency problem (52.5% - 40%). Moreover, it was shown that educational background of the participants plays a crucial role in the prevelance of sexual dysfunctions. The findings obtained from the study have been discussed in the light of current literature.
