The use of mouthpiece and reed in B Flat clarinet in accordance with the views of clarinet performers and clarinet trainers

This research aimed to identify differences among clarinet performers and trainers in their choices regarding the clarinet mouthpieces and reeds as a result of a views of clarinet performers and trainers, and as a result to provide some guidance about the selection of mouthpiece and reed for the clarinet performers. For this purpose, 74 B-flat clarinet performers and trainers were consulted with a questionnaire. The research tried to identify the priorities and considerations in the choice of mouthpiece and reed, recommendations on the model of mouthpiece and reed brand, and which mouth opening and why what number of reed should be used, and which mouthpiece and which reed can be used according to the type of music, and how often the mouthpiece and reed should be changed. As a result of the research, it is seen that the performers especially emphasize the ease of use and intonation harmony in the selection of the mouthpiece, while they prioritize the factors such as the harmony of the reed with the mouthpiece and obtaining a comfortable tone in the selection of the reeds.
