The contribution of green management applications and environment consciousness on the success of managements in the accommodation industries: A research on Muğla province

Pollution increase nowadays and wasting of sources which are possessed have directed accommodation industries to function more sensitive toward environment and to produce environmentally friendly products and services. Application by considering environmental consciousness which is based on sustainable tourism and green management applications together in accommodation industries will both decrease environmental pollution and provide to increase the quality of human life by preserving resources in nature. It is intended to reveal how often environment consciousness and activities which are appropriate to green management perceptiveness and because accommodation industries which adopt green management perceptiveness function conveniently to this management perceptiveness what kind of contributions it provides to management success. A survey was practised in the direction of this purpose on the top managers of 3, 4, and 5 stars hotel accommodation industries, holiday villages and boutique hotels which are active within the borders of Muğla Province. First of all, extensive literature search about the concepts was done and theoretical information was conveyed depending on the purpose of the study. Subsequently, research survey which was formed was only practised to the top managers of accommodation industries by preferring data gathering technique at first hand. Data which was gained from top managers of 242 industries was included to research analyses. The independent t-test sampling has been applied through the expressions found in the first part of the research scale in order to be able to examine whether there are any impacts on the success of the accomodation managements or not, their having blue flag and green star or not, their having ISO quality certificate and whether the managements are serious in environmental issues or not. It was established that there are positive directional and meaningful relations between green management applications and their all subdimensions at the result of correlation analysis which was done to determine relations between variables. In addition to this, it was stated that there are positive directional, meaningful and at high strength relations among green management applications, their all subdimensions and management success indicators. Regression analyses were done to reveal the effects of variables on each other. It was also established green management applications, production, human resources and marketing subdimensions affect management success indicators positively at the result of this analysis. On the other hand; accounting, finance, research and improvement subdimensions are not effective on management success indicators. Green management applications and management success indicators are categorized into three groups according to the sizing analyses which were done to classify in accordance with data similarities belonging to the participants. When activities which are convenient to green management concept of the participant managements were evaluated, it is possible to say that the managements in the first group apply on a large scale and the ones in the second group always apply and the ones in the third group are indecisive. This study which has been prepared as a doctoral thesis has an important instructive function in application to top managers who are active in tourism sector. It is thought that research results will be resource to different inferences for scientific researches in the future and comparative analyses.
