Abstract (EN)

INTRODUCTIONThe succes in colonoscopic investigation is closely associated with preperation before performing and luminal cleansing. Intestinal cleansity can not be fluent in case of consipation however, the main reasons are not understood well ın this presented study.AIMWe aimed to investigate and compare the effectiveness and tolerability of PEG and NaP solutions in contipation.METHODFifty-seven patients who admitted with complaint of constipation to Gatroenterology Department of Medical Faculty of Dicle University between December 2007 and June 2008 were included into the study. Sociodemographic features, tolerability and the advers events developed to used specific solution were recorded. The degree of cleansity was evaluated by two different gastroenterologists and scored as; excellent, good, acceptable, mild, bad. Non-parametric data were compared with chi-square test and Fisher?s exact test and Mann Whitney U test.FINDINGSTwnenty-eight out of 57 patients were in PEG group, and 29 were in NaP group. Disguisting incidence was higher in PEG group as compared with NaP (p=0.03). On the other hand, abdominal pain and nause incidence was higher in NaP group (p=0.04 and p=0.01, respectively).The effecivenes was excellent in 71.5% and good in 28.5% of patients in PEG group, and excellent in 55.2% and good in 31.0% in NaP group according to used scale. There was no statistical significant difference between effectiveness of PEG and NaP (p=0.213).CONCLUSIONPEG and NaP solutions have similar effects on preperation of colonoscopy. The tolerability of NaP was better than PEG solution.
