Transition periods in Konya-Sarayönü

This study deals with birth, marriage and death customs and related beliefs, methods and practices in Sarayönü district of Konya. In each transition period, the individual prepares himself for the next period by continuing on his way through various customs and beliefs against the difficulties he will face for the first time. In the introduction part of the study, the subject, purpose, scope, method, difficulties encountered during the field research and general and historical information about Sarayönü district are given. Transition periods, which are the main subject, are discussed in three sections. In the first part, the subject of birth in Sarayönü district was covered. In this section, it is divided into subheadings by being subjected to various classifications within themselves while evaluating them as prenatal, during birth and postnatal. In the second chapter, the subject of marriage in Sarayönü district is discussed. In this section, it was handled in three sections under the titles of pre-marriage, wedding and post-wedding. The beliefs, methods and practices under these subheadings have also been subjected to various classifications within themselves. In the third part of the study, the subject of death in Sarayönü district was discussed. As in the other chapters, it was analyzed in three sections: before death, during death and after death. These subheadings were subjected to various classifications within themselves. In the conclusion part of the study, a general evaluation of the study was tried to be made. Bibliography, information on the source persons, photographs taken, questions asked during the compilation and glossary sections are given in the last part of the study. With this study, information on birth, marriage and death traditions in the Sarayönü district of Konya, which are about to be forgotten, have been brought together. In addition, the concepts, proverbs, prayers, local names, laments, lullabies and practices that exist in folk culture, used in the region, were recorded and written down.
