Abstract (EN)

Geochemical and geochronological studies were carried out on the sandstones and intruding magmatics from the Kozan Formation Oruçlu Member of the Emirgazi Group, which forms the basement of the Geyikdağ autochthon, outcropping in the Kozan (Adana) region in the Eastern Taurides. Maximum depositional ages for the sandstones ranging from 524±12 Ma to 595.5±7.6 Ma were obtained, indicating Late Neoproterozoic (Ediacaran) - Early Cambrian (Terrenovian) based on the detrital zircon U-Pb dating. The U-Pb dating of the gabbroic rocks yielded 588±23 Ma and 524.27±1.46 Ma crystallization ages, indicating the Late Neoproterozoic (Ediacaran) - Early Cambrian (Terrenovian) period. All the geochronological and geochemical data suggest that the Cadomian (Late Neoproterozoic - Early Cambrian) basement (Emirgazi Group, Kozan Formation) in the Eastern Taurides, represented by the Geyikdağ autochthon, was evolved by a series of sedimentary and magmatic processes that developed in a back-arc basin adjacent to the northern margin of Gondwana.
