The study of metofori̇c percepti̇ons of the students who stay i̇n dormitories

The current study aims to specify metaphorical perceptions of college students related to dormitories. The students selected from state owned dorms. The study was designed as a survey study. The participants that take place in the current study were selected from Üsküdar-Altunizade Males' Dorm,Beykoz Anadolu Hisarı Girls'Dorm, Ataşehir Girls' Dorm,Vali Muammer Güler Girls' Dorm, Kadıköy Akkadın Hacı Mustafa Tarhan Girls' Dorm. The total capacity of those dorms is 2250 while the current study was conducted with 520 students who want to participate to the study voluntarily. The data obtained were analyzed by using content analysis technique. That is, the data were combined around some concepts and themes, related with a rationale. The findings of the current study revealed that, most of the students participated to the study have not satisfied with the dorm conditions. Most of the students stated that they found physical conditions of dorms unsatisfactory where strict and rush rules were imposed by dorm administrators. Additionally, the study findings showed that there is not identifiable differences among male and female students in terms of their selected metaphors. For this reason, it can be inferred that, the conditions of the dorms are somewhat the same for both dorms where the study conducted. Those results were discussed in the light of the relevant literature.
