Changes of chronic pain and sleep relations according to demographic characteristics

İntroduction: It is known that sleep quality of patients with chronic pain is affected in the worst way. In this study, it was aimed to determine whether this relationship between chronic pain and sleep was controlled by sociodemographic and socioeconomic variables. Methods: Manisa Celal Bayar University Faculty of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation Department of Algology 99 of 150 chronic pain patients who applied to polyclinic were included in the study in the period of March-April-May 2017. A questionnaire about 50 questions was administered to the outpatient clinic. With this questionnaire, sociodemographic characteristics, pain quantities using VAS and MASF and sleep quality with PUKI were recorded. Student's t test and chi-square test were used in the analysis of the data. Results: Sleep quality was found to be poor in 66.7% of chronic pain patients participating in the study. Although the elderly patient count was insufficient, the elderly group in our study found that the sleep quality was worse. The sleep quality of women was found to be lower than that of men. Sleep quality of chronic sleeping patients with low educational level was found to be poor. It was observed that the presence of additional diseases affects sleep quality in the negative direction, and it was found that the severity of pain increased in quality compared to the result of the quantitative evaluation of pain obtained from both VAS and MASF. Conclusion: The relationship between chronic pain and sleep in our study was affected by sociodemographic and socioeconomic variables. In this case, it was concluded that the diagnosis and treatment of chronic pain can help.
