The frequency of fibromyalgia syndrome in patients with chronic renal failure and examining the factors associated with

Aim: One of the major complications about the patients with KBY is that their rheumataological problems. However, in the literature there is limited study about searching the frequency of fibromyalgia.For this reason, we wanted to search the frequency of FMS in predialysis, peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis patients and also we aimed to investigate the relationship between FMS and demographic parameters (age, sex, duration of dialysis) and the other parameters like serum Bun, kreatinin (Cre), hemoglobin (hgb), thyroid sitümülan hormone (TSH), sodium (Na), potassium (ka), calcium (ca), phosphorus (p), magnesium (mg), B 12, folate, parathyroid hormone and vitamine D.Materials and Method: Tests which are necessary to our investigation are obtained from the file archive department and hospital automation system in İnönü University, Turgut Özal Medicine Center.We also benefited from the follow-up forms which are created for dialysis patients. Patients in this study were primarily informed about the study and their approvals were obtained.The patients? name, surname, age, sex, educational status, job, dialysis status and renal failure were registered to the study form.According to criteria based on multicenter study in ACR (American College of Romatoloji) published in February in 1990; in patients 18 tender point examination were done. The patients who are examined and have more than 11 ache were accepted as fibromyalgia syndrome. The laboratory results and the other vitamin values which are routinely required were registered to our automation system by the polyclinic doctor.Findings: For this study 288 CRF patients were used. The mean of age is 52-16. 162 of them were men patients.118 of them CRF III-V, 85 of them hemodialysis and 85 of them were having peritoneal dialysis examination. 46 of them ( 16 %) were determined as fibromyalgia syndrome.Result: Fibromyalgia syndrome is frequently seen in patients with chronic renal failure and also another studies are required to give meaning to the findings effectively the relationship between fibromyalgia and other factors.
