Abstract (EN)

In this study, aiming to evaluate the science and technology subject teaching process competencies of the class teachers working in countryside and city centre according to their views, enriched research design and comparative type relational survey model were used. The population of the study is the 4PthP grade class teachers working in Kütahya in 2012 – 2013 educational year. In the Competency Survey application, it was tried to reach to the whole population before forming the sample of the study, but of the 377 teachers 268 of them were included in the evaluation in the study. 50 class teachers whose mean scores were low form the interview group and 6 class teachers whose mean scores were high form the observation study group. Performance indicators as to learning-teaching competency from "Teaching Profession General Competencies" by Ministry of National Education were converted into five point likert scale and it was used as data collection tool. The same performance indicators were also investigated by using interview and observation techniques. The data gathered from surveys and observations were analysed with SPSS program and interview data were evaluated with content analysis. The replies of 4PthP grade class teachers working in countryside and city centre on competency were interpreted in the light of the results obtained from the frequencies, percentages and arithmetic means. The data gathered by observation were interpreted with arithmetic mean and the data gathered with interview were interpreted with content analysis. It was determined that the condition of working countryside and city centre was a factor making statistically significant difference in favour of city centre on "preparing material" and "diversifying teaching by taking in to account the individual difference" competencies. It was also determined that gender was a factor making statistically significant difference in favour of females on "planning lesson, designing the learning environment, diversifying teaching by taking in to account the individual difference, behaviour management" competencies. Proposals based on the findings of the study were brought forward as to pre-service and in service teacher training programs Key words: Science and Technology subject, teaching process competencies, class teacher
