The evaluation of the website designs of cruise companies in terms of semantical harmony and an ontology proposal

In this study, it was investigated whether the website designs of cruise companies are compatible with semantic web applications and the concepts that should be included in the ontology were revealed in order to create a cruise tourism ontology. In the study, 57 cruise company websites were examined as a sample and primary data on the websites of cruise companies were used. The data were collected in 2 stages through document analysis, which is one of the qualitative analysis methods. First, the linked data embedded in the html codes in the technical interfaces of the web pages, and secondly, all the words in the visible part that can be defined as the user interface of the web pages were evaluated. The study consists of three parts. In the first part, the concept of semantic web and the information technologies that make up its infrastructure are mentioned. In the second part, information technologies used in tourism enterprises, semantic web applications and existing tourism ontologies are mentioned, and information technologies used in cruise enterprises are emphasized. In the third chapter, website designs of cruise companies are evaluated in terms of semantic compatibility based on primary data. According to the evaluation, it has been determined that the majority of the websites of the cruise companies are not ready for the semantic web infrastructure and the words that should be included in a cruise tourism ontology have been determined and a cruise tourism ontology has been suggested.
