SCHEDULING OF A CONSTRUCTION PROJECT UNDERCONSTRAINED-RESOURCES CONDITION WITHGENETIC ALGORITHM(Ph. D. Thesis)Mürsel ERDALGAZ! UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYJanuary 2007ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study is to develop a Genetic Algorithm (GA) basedsoftware that can perform resource allocation close to optimum and that candetermine the critical path by minimizing the project duration according to theresource profile for a present work schedule and resource pool using aprogrammable objective function. In this context, the methodology of GeneticAlgorithms is presented, a software package named RCPS_GA (ResourceConstrained Project Scheduling using Genetic Algorithms) is developed and theperformance of this software is tested with an example. With the developedsoftware by minimizing the activity durations in both constrained andunconstrained resource conditions, projects can be scheduled, total durationand the critical path of the projects can be determined. Finally, with thissoftware any construction company will be able to determine how much timewill be required to complete a project at the bidding stage by considering itsown resources and constraints and can take required precautions.Science Code : 714.3.035Key Words : Genetic algorithm, planning, scheduling, optimizationPage Number : 109Adviser : Prof. Dr. Recep KANIT
