A field study to determine the level of sustainable production in small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises

Sustainability is a concept that is becoming increasingl important for businesses today. Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) also play an important role in this field.Sustainable production level in SMEs is an approach that includes addressing environmental, social and economic responsibilities in a balanced manner and aiming for long-term success.This approach encourages businesses to attach importance to environmentally friendly and sustainable practices, strive to ensure energy and resource efficiency, and focus on waste management and recycling activities.The aim of this study is to investigate the sustainable production level of SMEs in Mardin Organized IndustrialZone (MOIZ).Field research was carried out by conducting a face-to-face survey with 94 enterprises among the 156 active manufacturing enterprises in MOSB. Survey data were analyzed using the SPSS 20 package program. The findings show that SMEs in MOIZ take sustainability-oriented steps, starting from product design to production processes, waste management, energy use, supply chain, reverse logistics, economic and social responsibilities. This shows that sustainable production levels are high, reflecting the importance that businesses attach to environmentally friendly and sustainable practices. In addition, there is a significant relationship between demographic variables and sustainable production level and gender, educational status, sector, working time, total experience and working in environmentally related public institutions, and also between sustainable production level and gender, age, marital status, educational status, sector, working time and total experience.
