Abstract (EN)

The main research question of this study is how and to what extent the cultural variables affect internal and external capital. To accomplish that, this doctoral thesis focuses on investigating the effects of allocentric and idiocentric tendencies on the formation and magnitude of internal and external social capital. Two samples are constructed from business owners and / or upper level managers who have companies in SİTELER (Ankara Mobilyacılar Sitesi) and OSTİM (Ortadoğu Sanayi ve Ticaret Merkezi) industrial zones. The effects of the vertical ? horizontal collectivism tendencies and vertical ? horizontal individualism tendencies on the cognitive and affective based trust; on the in-group and out-group trust; hence, on the embedded and arm?s length relations; and finally on the levels of internal and external social capital are investigated. The results of this study suggest that, the majority of the study variables are not affected by the cultural value dimensions. The findings indicate that, both horizontal individualism and external social capital and, vertical collectivism and affective based trust are positively related. Furthermore, the results of the study imply that, in-group trust and internal social capital are also positively related.
