The issue of eternity of the afterlife according to the Quran

Death and the afterlife are fundamental issues at the heart of human existential curiosity. The aim of this study is to identify how the question of the eternity of the afterlife, according to the Quran, has been addressed in exegetical literature from the classical to the modern era, and to present this approach through a comparative perspective. The research consists of an introduction, three parts and a conclusion. In first part, The concepts discussed regarding the eternity of the afterlife, along with their word analyses, are presented in detail. Establishing the conceptual framework is considered a fundamental basis for the correct understanding and interpretation of the relevant verses. In second part, the issue of belief in the afterlife and its duration was examined in the divine religions and in the Arab society to which the Holy Quran was revealed. The effects of the belief in the eternity of the afterlife on individual and social life have also been discussed. The third part of the study identifies verses in the Quran related to the duration of the afterlife and examines these verses within the framework of the interpretations of commentators from the early to the later periods. Throughout the study, a comparative method has been followed between classical and modern interpretations of the Quran; conceptual analysis, historical context examination, and comparative interpretation have been used together. In this respect, the research aims to contribute to the evaluation of the issue of the eternity of the afterlife in Islamic exegesis within a holistic framework.
