A study on economic policies of sports in Turkey the framework of globalization

Globalization considers the world as one huge market and may be defined as all activities with respect to the humans being expanded to the earth and treated all across the world. This situation has come to today's levels after 1980's, with the disintegration of the Soviet Union (S.S.C.B.) and the end of the cold war, through accelerating with the effects of liberal economy policies and technologic advancements. We will try to explain a number of definitions in our study herein. In the light of the mentioned developments, governments and enterprises accepted that globalization was inevitable. Therefore, they either had to take place in the market to influence it in the direction of their own interests or live with the fear of disappearing. The key players effecting the globalization can be listed as multinational corporations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and nation states. The information and communication technologies bring to mind developments of the current life, culture and similar variables. Sports is basically a form of life which embraces all the activities that a human performs in order to stay healthy, have fun and to make use of his/her spare time. The stability of the today's environment and world has caused sports to become a necessity. The enterprises and corporations try to satisfy this demand emerged by creating sport programs. However, the demands of the humans are limitless, therefore this arises the need for the sport programs to be also in a wide range and varieties. The supply and demand equilibrium, which is the reason why economy exists is very much associated with the limitless demands and needs of humans and the poor supplies to satisfy those needs. The terms globalization and the sports have been started to be used frequently one next to each other lately. The technologic developments and investments by the countries in different branches of sports have been the major reasons why those terms became a part of our lives so rapidly. Subsequently, the sports economy has guaranteed its place in the global market. The impacts of the globalization on the sports have not only caused it to be more than just a means or a hobby to make use of one's spare times but also grow and reinforced its economic aspect. Following this advancements and evolutions, sports have become an important source of income; and its regulatory and effective role have increased greatly as a result of its direct impact on the country's economy. The countries now, as in all other areas, have started to develop a number of policies in order to possess the power to influence the global market also in the sports. It is also considered as a proper tool of investment to carry out many international organizations. It is possible to reach people from different cultures and backgrounds via sports. Accordingly, through the World Cup for example, it is possible to reach every place and part of the world. Which provesthat this is a global incident itself. In our study here, we tried to make a number of basic definitions on globalization, sports, enterprises and corporations; mentioned the impact of the globalization on the sports; made a few explanations about operations and activities of the sports enterprises; evaluated the sports policies applied in Turkey within the framework of budget and development plan; and finally by submitting the results obtained, we made certain recommendations. A number of different books, articles and websites have been used as a resource to compose this study.
